SMTP settings at a glance
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Server | smtp.mailgun.org (US) · smtp.eu.mailgun.org (EU) |
| Ports | 587 (STARTTLS, recommended) · 2525 (fallback) · 465 (SSL) · 25 |
| Username | postmaster@your-domain.com (your full SMTP login) |
| Password | Your domain's SMTP password (set in Step 2) |
⚠️ Region matters. If you created your domain in Mailgun's EU region, you must use
smtp.eu.mailgun.org. US domains usesmtp.mailgun.org. Using the wrong one is the #1 cause of login failures.
Step 1 — Add & verify your domain
- In Mailgun: Sending → Domains → Add New Domain.
- Mailgun shows DNS records — SPF (TXT), DKIM (TXT), and an optional tracking CNAME. Add them at your DNS host.
- Click Verify. (DNS can take up to 24–48 hours.)
A new account also has a sandbox domain that only emails up to 5 authorized recipients — use your own verified domain for real sending.
Step 2 — Get your SMTP credentials
- Sending → Domains → click your domain → SMTP credentials tab.
- The default login is
postmaster@your-domain.com. - Click Reset Password, set or generate a password (the new password is shown once — copy it immediately).
Step 3 — Paste into Mailbo
- Settings → SMTP & sending → click the Mailgun tile.
- Sender: From email (on your domain) + From name.
- Credentials: Username =
postmaster@your-domain.com, Password = the SMTP password from Step 2. Pick the matching region if asked. - Save, then Send test email.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Login fails | Wrong region host (EU vs US), or you used your dashboard password instead of the SMTP password. |
| Goes to sandbox only | You're sending from the sandbox domain — switch to your verified domain. |
| Domain won't verify | DNS not propagated yet, or a duplicate SPF record — merge into one. |
